Christening Photography in Milton Keynes
- Church ceremony
- Family portraits
- The gathering afterwards
- Orthodox & Anglican
Calm, sensitive christening photography across Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire — church ceremony, family portraits, and the gathering afterwards.
A christening is a quiet day, and it moves quickly. The ceremony itself is often short — the readings, the prayers, the moment at the font — and the gathering afterwards is where most of the day, and most of the photographs, will live.
I photograph the day the way it asks to be photographed: quietly, from the back or the side, mostly hand-held and leaning on natural light. You’ll barely notice me during the service, and you’ll feel the room remember itself when the gallery lands a few weeks later.
What I cover
- The ceremony — the procession, the font, the candle and the blessing, wherever the church or officiant is happy for me to work.
- Family portraits — a small, calm set of posed groups once the formal part is over, arranged quickly so no one is left standing around.
- The gathering afterwards — the lunch, the cake, the toasts, the cousins on the lawn; the part of the day that actually feels like a celebration.
- The details — the gown, the candle, the keepsakes and the cake, shot before the day gets busy.
I’ve photographed christenings in both Orthodox and Church of England settings, and I’m comfortable adapting to whatever your tradition asks — including calling your church ahead to confirm what’s allowed.
Pricing starts at £350 and is tailored to your guest count, the length of coverage you need, and any travel involved. Get in touch with your date and a rough outline of the day — church, time, and where the family is gathering afterwards — and I’ll come back with a quote.

Parents often ask
-
Do you photograph the ceremony at christenings?
Yes, where the church or officiant allows it. I work quietly from the back or side and rely on natural light wherever possible. If the church is comfortable with flash and we've agreed it in advance, I'll use it sparingly with a soft, non-disruptive setup. I'm happy to call ahead and confirm what's allowed with your church if it helps. After the ceremony, I cover the family gathering with the same unobtrusive approach. -
How long do you stay at a christening?
Most christenings are a half-day. A typical booking covers the lead-up and the ceremony at church, a short set of family portraits afterwards, and the first part of the gathering — the meal, the cake, the toasts. That usually runs 2–4 hours. If the celebration carries on into the evening, or the church and the reception are some distance apart, we can extend the coverage to suit. I'll agree the window with you in advance once I know the running order. -
How far ahead should I book a christening photographer?
4–6 weeks is comfortable for most christenings — long enough to confirm the church, the time, and where the family is gathering afterwards. For busy periods (summer weekends and the run-up to Christmas) try to allow 2–3 months. If your date is sooner, do still get in touch; short-notice christenings often work out. -
Do you photograph Orthodox and Church of England christenings?
Yes — I've covered both Orthodox baptisms and Church of England christenings, as well as less formal naming and blessing ceremonies. Each tradition has its own rhythm: an Orthodox service moves around the font with anointing, immersion, and candles, while a CofE christening usually centres on the font and the blessing within the main service. I learn the order of the day in advance so I'm in the right place at the right moment, and I'm always happy to call your church or officiant ahead to confirm what photography they allow.
