"Anna did a couple of sessions with my family. She showed great patience with the kids and high professionalism. I loved how the pictures turned out after the editing as she managed to keep the natural look of our family. I recommend her 100%."

Studio family sessions
Indoor studio family sessions in my Milton Keynes studio — controlled lighting, year-round availability, and a calm space that works for sitter-age babies through teenagers and multi-generation family groups.
Why a studio session works
Studio sessions answer the two questions every parent asks before they book: “what if it rains?” and “can we still shoot in winter?” Indoors, both stop mattering. Light doesn’t change. Temperature stays right. The backdrop is whatever we agree it should be. If you’ve been waiting for the right weather and the British calendar keeps disagreeing, the studio is the answer — and most parents leave quietly relieved that nobody had to chase a toddler across a damp park.
Studio also suits families who simply prefer the look — soft, even light, a clean neutral or styled backdrop, and skin tones that come out consistent frame after frame. Outdoor parkland sessions feel like a walk; studio sessions feel like a portrait sitting. Both deliver beautiful photos. The studio just trades open sky for predictability.
Who it works for
The studio is set up for sitter-age babies through teens, and for family groups that include grandparents. Babies from about six months — once they can sit unsupported — make particularly good studio subjects: controlled light flatters their soft skin, and a short session matches their attention span. Toddlers and pre-schoolers do well because the studio is small, warm, and contained, with fewer distractions than a park. Older children and teenagers sometimes warm up faster indoors than out. Multi-generation groups — grandparents through grandchildren — fit comfortably for the seated and standing setups that anchor a family wall print.
I don’t currently offer dedicated newborn photography in the first few weeks of life — that’s specialist work and I can recommend trusted Milton Keynes photographers who focus on it. For everything from sitter-age upwards, the studio is the right place.
What’s set up for the session
The lighting is professional studio flash, softened for portraiture so skin tones stay natural across mixed-age family groups. Backdrops rotate seasonally — soft creams, dusty pinks, sage greens, and oatmeal canvases for the clean modern look, plus a few styled sets including the floral wall in the gallery above. Mention any colour or theme you have in mind at booking and I’ll style around it where I can.
A small library of props lives in the studio for milestone sessions — floral crowns, simple cake stands, balloon arches, and seasonal pieces in November and December for Christmas mini-sessions. Most family groups don’t need props, but they’re there if a milestone makes one feel right.
If you’d like to bring something meaningful — a christening gown, a knitted blanket from a grandparent, a child’s favourite toy — please do. The photos that get printed and framed are almost always the ones with something personal in them.
Wardrobe — what works indoors
Indoor light is gentler than outdoor light, so soft solid colours and simple textures photograph particularly well. Coordinated, not matching is the rule — pick a palette of two or three complementary tones (creams, sage, dusty pink, warm earth, soft navy) and have everyone dress within it. Avoid large logos and busy patterns; they pull attention from faces. Layers are useful because the studio runs warm under the lights.
For children, comfort matters more than dressy — a pre-schooler in a stiff outfit they keep tugging at is harder to photograph than the same child in something soft they barely notice. I send a tailored wardrobe note once we book.
Studio vs outdoor — which to pick
Outdoor sessions are the right choice when you want parkland or lakeside as part of the story, when the weather’s reliably on side, or when older kids genuinely need somewhere to run. Studio is the right choice for weather-proofing a winter milestone, for sitter-baby portraits, for clean tightly-cropped family-on-the-wall shots, and for any session where you’d rather not bank on a forecast. Many families book both over time — outdoor in summer, studio at Christmas.
What happens next
Studio sessions run around 60 minutes — long enough to settle younger children, short enough to finish before nap time. I’ll send a short pre-session questionnaire after booking covering your child’s age and nap pattern, the backdrop and props you’ve chosen, any wardrobe questions, and the people we’re photographing. Most family bookings are confirmed within 24 hours of enquiry. Galleries are delivered within 2–3 weeks via a private online gallery with download rights for personal use; print and canvas ordering is available afterwards through the gallery.

Parents often ask
-
My child is shy or restless — will the photos still work?
Absolutely — getting natural reactions from children is what I do every week. I work patiently, give kids time to warm up, and capture genuine play and connection rather than asking them to pose. Bringing a favourite toy or snack helps. Sessions are paced so we never rush — restless children get the best results when we let them lead a bit. -
Where do family photoshoots happen?
Outdoor family sessions are most often shot at Willen Lake, Campbell Park, Caldecotte Lake, or The Tree Cathedral — all in Milton Keynes — though I'm happy to travel to a location of your choice in the surrounding area. Studio sessions take place in a controlled indoor space, ideal for cake smash, milestone portraits, and any-weather backups. -
How long is a family session and how many photos do I get?
Standard outdoor sessions run 60–90 minutes — that's the sweet spot for keeping younger children engaged, with extra slack for breaks and snacks. The starter package includes 15 carefully edited high-resolution images; larger packages with 30+ images are available. Galleries are delivered via a private online gallery within 2–3 weeks. Add-on images and prints are available afterwards from the gallery. -
What should we wear for a family photoshoot?
Coordinated, not matching. Pick a soft palette of 2–3 complementary colours and have everyone dress within it — solids and gentle textures photograph better than busy patterns or large logos. Comfort matters more than dressy: kids do best in clothes they can move and play in. For autumn outdoor sessions, layers, knits, and earthy tones work beautifully with the natural light. -
Who can I include in my family photo session?
Everyone is welcome — partners, children, grandparents, and even your dog. I plan a mix of group portraits and individual or smaller-grouping shots so every relationship in the family gets a moment in the gallery. For larger groups (10+), get in touch ahead of time so I can plan light and positioning to suit.
What families say
★ 5-star reviewed on Google
"I am so glad we chose Anna for our Christmas mini shoot. Anna made us all feel so comfortable and worked her magic in getting our 10 month old to look at the camera consistently. She had 3 backdrops/setups, a whole heap of different props and was so patient throughout the session."
